History of the Kune Kune Pig

The Kune Kune pig is of Asian origin but developed its present form in New Zealand kept by the Maori communities. Kune Kune pigs are relatively small and highly distinctive, characterized by a short-legged and dumpy build, pot belly with short upturned nose and a generally fat appearance.
A unique feature of the Kune Kune is the Piri Piri (tassels) hanging from their lower jaw. However, not all pure bred have tassels (as they have been known to drop off).
The Kune Kune pig is a smallholder's delight often becoming "Man's best friend". Many owners treat them as you would a pet dog even living indoors.
Kune Kune pigs are relatively small pigs growing to around 24" compared to the large pigs produced for meat, although people to eat Kunes for meat I prefer to encourage their existence for the shear fun of having them around.
The standard breed colours range is: Black, black/white; Cream; Black/Ginger; Brown .Ginger or Ginger/Black and predominantly spotty though you can get a single colour from a spotty breeding pair.
